Edward Kenway is the playable protagonist, a Welsh privateer-turned-pirate and captain of the Jackdaw.

Edward Kenway is the playable protagonist of Black Flag Resynced — a young Welshman who leaves home to seek fortune, becomes a privateer, and then a pirate captain in the Caribbean. He commands the Jackdaw and gets drawn into the war between Assassins and Templars.

He is the father of Haytham and grandfather of Connor from Assassin's Creed III. Original actor Matt Ryan returns to voice him in the remake.
